Recreation

Jackson County offers an abundunce of recreational and cultural activities. As one might think, many of these are outdoor recreational opportunities. The beautiful Emerald Coast beaches and the Gulf of Mexico are only an hour away. The whole region offers many lakes, streams and rivers for boating, canoeing, swimming, skiing and fishing.

Florida Caverns State Park, on Highway 167, offers many outdoor activities, as well as an underground tour of its natural caves. Three Rivers State Recreational Area, located on Lake Seminole, is not far away.

Jackson County offers three golf courses, plus tennis courts.

Library Facilities

Jackson County offers a public library, with facilities in Marianna, Graceville, Malone and Sneads, plus a bookmobile.

The library at Chipola Junior College is also open to the public.

Symphony/Theater

The Chipola Regional Symphony features local and professional artists. Chipola Junior College offers a fine theater department, with some performances even combining dinner and the arts!

Festivals/Annual Events

From bluegrass, to rodeos, to Fourth of July fireworks, Jackson County offers a variety of events year around.

Volunteer Organizations

There are over ninety organizations and clubs in Marianna alone, many of which contribute to the communities through hours of volunteerism and service.

Churches

Nearly 100 churches grace the landscape of Jackson County, the majority of which are Protestant.

Housing

Housing in Jackson County is reasonably priced and ranked among the lowest in the state.

100 Best Small Towns in America

In his 1995 The 100 Best Small Towns in America, second edition, Norman Crampton ranks Marianna 76 overall. This ranking is a combination of the following factors: growth rate, per capita income, bank deposits per capita, proportions of residents in the 25-34 age group, crime rate, number of physicians, public school expenditures per pupil, and proportion of residents with a bachelors degree or higher.
