This is a grant program providing training for high quality jobs.
Maximum Amount: Negotiated with local education provider (community college, school district, vocational-technical centers, state universities and approved post-secondary private institutions) to meet industry need.
Requirements: New or expanding businesses that produce exportable goods or services, create new jobs and employ Florida workers who require customized entry-level skills training are eligible.
The business must create at least 10 new full-time jobs or, if an expansion, must increase employment by 10% or at least 100 new jobs.
This grant provides funding to locate governments for the elimination of transportation problems that adversely impact a company's location or expansion. The elimination of the problem must be the inducement for that company to locate, stay, or expand in Florida.
Eligible projects include location-specific problems such as access roads, signalization or road widening.
Maximum Amount: $2,000,000. Actual amount funded is based on specific job creation and/or retention criteria.
For awards for more than $100,000 there must be 200 or more full-time jobs created or retained.
For awards of $200,000 to $1,000,000 there must be 100 or more full-time jobs created or retained.
For awards of less than $200,000 there is no minimum requirement of jobs creation or retention.
Provides a tax refund to qualified defense contractors to minimize negative economic impact of defense downsizing in Florida.
Maximum Amount: $5,000 per job created or saved in Florida through conversion of defense jobs to civilian production; acquisition of new defense contract; consolidation of defense contract. Maximum not to exceed $7.5 million.
Requirements: Business must pay an average wage on the project of at least 115% of average area wages.
Business must have derived a minimum of 70% of its Florida gross receipts from Dept. of Defense contracts.
Business must create 25% or more increase in employment, or a minimum of 80 new jobs for consolidations.
Florida's regulatory agencies are committed to providing quicker, less costly and more predictable permit approvals without reducing environmental standards.
Expedited Permit Review Process: Significant economic development projects may obtain expedited review of their permit applications.
Requirements: Businesses must create at least 100 jobs or, if the business is located in the Zone and meets certain county population requirements, 50 jobs.
A Permit Clearinghouse has been established in the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development. It will provide state agency regulatory information on which permits are required for particular businesses and on the application process, as well as criteria applied in making a determination of a permit application.
Florida Jobs Siting Act - New Changes For 1996: Business must create 100 new jobs, down from a previous 500. In fact, on the discretion of the local government, the number of new jobs required can be reduced to a minimum of 25. The target industry list has also been eliminated.
Economic Development Liaisons: Within Florida's departments of Transportation, Environmental Protection, Labor & Employment Security, Education, Community Affairs, Management Services and the Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission, there is an appointee who knows the state's permitting and other regulatory functions, as well as Florida's economic goals, policies and programs.
Provides tax refunds to pre-approved applicants up to $5,000 per new job created; $7,500 in the Zone.
Requirements: New or expanding businesses in selected targeted industries or corporate headquarters are eligible.
Company must apply prior to making a decision to locate or expand in Florida.
The business must create at least 10 new full-time jobs or, if an expansion, must increase employment by 10%.
