AREA ATTRACTIONS
After exploring this part of Marianna's history you may want to
do some cave exploring. Only four miles way is the Caverns State
Park, which includes the Florida Caverns, Florida's only natural caves. Park rangers provide entertaining
tours throughout every day. Within a seven mile radius there are three local golf courses,
all offering challenging play at very low fees. For fishermen,
there are many public fishing holes nearby, including Lake Seminole,
Ocheese Pond, The Mill Pond, the Chipola River, The Chattahoochee
River, and the Apalachipola River. All vividly demonstrate the
natural beauty of the area. Canoe and raft trips down the peaceful Chipola River are available.
The river winds its course around Marianna, entering and exiting
the city limits at several points. However, on the river you see
nothing but the unspoiled natural beauty of this local treasure. Two large natural springs provide crystal clear swimming holes
for water enthusiasts. These are the "Blue Hole" located in the
Cavers State Park, and "Blue Springs" located at the headwater
of the Mill Pond. The Mill Pond is a seven mile long, crystal
clear cypress lake that is formed by the spring at its northern
end and the dam located east of the town on highway 90. Boating
this lake and seeing the fish in the clear waters is a unique
experience. Additionally, the beautiful sugar white beaches of Panama City
and Mexico Beach are only an hour away.
